Horror movie tips

I’d like some tips for cozy horror movies! Ones that aren’t truly horrifying and and make you feel sick, but rather pleasantly scary. Stephen King’s It is a perfect example, and I’m partial to anything with werewolves or ghosts and classic 80s horror movies.

Hei Johanna.

I think “Peeping Tom” is really good, although it’s rather a thriller.
Or “White Zombie” of course, with Bela Lugosi!

If you haven’t seen it already, I’d reccommend Eyes Without a Face!

I recommend Gingersnaps, its a film about two sisters and lycanthropy. It’s really good.

Also, Bride of Chucky, it’s more dark comedy/horror but it’s one of my favorites. It’s the sequel to Chucky though, so maybe a double feature. :)

I just saw Ginger Snaps in the video rental place this week and wondered if it was as decent as it looked!

I’m not a big gory horror person, but I quite liked this low budget Australian zombie comedy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Undead_%28film%29

And a so-bad-it’s-good classic which SHOULD have been made in the late 80s/early 90s: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satan%27s_School_for…

House of the Devil! This is an 80s style, satanic-panic movie, I loved it. It came out last year, and it was very well done. LOTS of suspense!

I’m fan of Tim Burton, so I recommand Sleepy Hollow.

I also like Murnau’s Nosferatu.

If you already see both, I suggest you to watch any Ed Wood movies. Old fashion, not so creepy but really funny and kitsch.

I highly recommend the old Hammer Horrors, I just love them. The early movies like ‘Scream of Fear’ have great plot twists and as the years go by get sillier and a bit camp, Vincent Price showing off his hammy acting skills ;)

Jag rekommenderar också Hammer! Nästan allt med Hammer :) The Devil rides out och To the Devil a daughter är två bra exempel.

Och när vi ändå pratar om tips, kan jag, efter att ha läst ditt inlägg om svårigheterna med att hitta trevliga konstnärer, tipsa om Ivan Bilibin, om du inte redan känner till hans verk. Mycket mycket bra. En av mina absoluta favoriter.

Rosemary’s Baby, The Host or anything by M Night Shamylan (except for the Happening- it was awful!)

Thanks for all the tips! :) I’ve seen many of them already but I’ll definitely check out the rest.

Phobia! Det är en thailändsk horror i novell-format som jag såg häromdagen. Väldigt spännande och stundtals väldigt roligt!

How about a classic 1946 gothic suspense thriller like Dragonwyck starring the lovely Gene Tierney!

Let me know what you decide!

80’s horror are the best imo, gory and funny at the same time.
Happy Birthday To Me is excellent (and the ending theme of the movie, sung by Motown-star Syreeta Wright is a reason to watch it all by itself), and The Thing of course. In The Mouth of Madness is also excellent.
Also, anything by Takashi Miike is always good, then especially Audition (Odishon, 1999). (I’ll stop before I enter geek-turbomode, but the Child’s Play series are always enjoyable!)

“Fright Night” is good, its got Chris Sarandon in it, very 80’s and the cute leading guy sadly went on to gay porn. I’m sure you’ve probably seen it though :P
Beaver.. I sat through a Takashi Miike film and it literally made me sick!

Not 80’s but “Blood and Roses” is is very hard to find on video, and not out on dvd. But it’s like a hammer film only more beautiful.

I like the old horror anthology films from Amicus. They don’t make them like that any more.

April Fool’s Day (the original)
The Fog (the original)
Halloween (the original)
The Stuff
Killer Klowns From Outer Space
Scream
I Know What You Did Last Summer
Friday the 13th (the original)
Return of the Living Dead

These are my favorite cozy horror films. It is hard to define cozy, but you know it when you see it.

Carnival of Souls (1962)

Try “Something Wicked This Way Comes” (1983)…it’s along the same lines as the Twilight Zone. It always creeped me out, but I didn’t find myself running and hiding, especially if a handsome man was beside me. :D

I will check it out, thank you!

Oh I can’t recall the name of my fav horror movie…it’s an old black and white movie and it has an exceptionally creepy lake, I watched it when I was very young which I’m sure goes along way to making it so spooky to me. I really wish I knew the name so I could watch it again !!
