Los Angeles 2010, day one

In Los Angeles we stayed at the Magic Castle Hotel. Our room had quite a few problems, most notably some loud humming machine right outside our window, and the window wouldn’t shut all the way, but the staff and service were really really great, they even had a free mini bar menu, and the location was perfect as well.

The first day after arriving from Disneyland we went on one of those guided bus tours. It’s the first time we’ve done that but it was a great way to see Los Angeles, especially since it ‘s so big and sprawling, and our guide seemed to really know his stuff. One part of the tour was looking at celebrity houses, which I didn’t expect to be very interested in, but driving around Beverly Hills looking at beautiful houses ended up being my favourite part of the tour. Beverly Hills was amazing, it looked completely unreal, and so different from all other places I’ve visited in America. We also saw the Playboy mansion! Or at least glimpsed it, and the house from Fresh Prince of Bel Air :)

After the tour we went to The Hollywood Museum. It’s in the amazing Max Factor building and the Max Factor make up rooms were my very favourite part of the entire trip. It was really the ultimate Hollywood glamour experience for me and I could have stayed there forever. The rest of the museum was great as well.

Rodeo Drive
Next tour stop, Rodeo Drive! It was fun to see the hotel from Pretty Woman, and later we saw Julia Roberts’ hotel from the movie as well, and the store where she’s kicked out.

Mel's Drive-In
On the lunch break we ate at Mel’s Drive-In in the Max Factor building, and decided to come back to the museum later.

Ohhh I loove the make up rooms and you simply must see The Dolly Sisters! Surely you’ve seen the scene featuring the dress you saw? -if not here it is..

Hi Johanna,

I’m Darren Ross, the General Manager to the Magic Castle Hotel in Hollywood. Thank you much for writing about us and I’m so glad you liked the service.
If you don’t mind, can you please let me know the room number you stayed in so we can make the proper repairs to the room? Each room should be perfect, and I’m so sorry it wasn’t that way for you.
Please come back soon!!

Sincerely,
Darren

I definitely need to hit the Max Factor Museum next time i’m in L.A., it look absolutely amazing!

It’s also nice that you were allowed to take pictures inside :)

Heidi: So very beautiful! I had only seen filmstills!

Darren: The service was truly some of the best ever! I’m afraid I can’t remember the room number but it was up a short stair to the right of the pool, then one more short stair, and our window was facing the right wall towards the “alley” outside.

Wazzra: It really was amazing!
