Photos: Folk inspired

European and American folk costumes and the fashions they have inspired! I love this kind of stuff: peasant blouses, dirndls, rickrack and anything Mexican looking. I’m also a big fan of native American related stuff. I thought for sure I’d have more photos of clothes like this but apparently not, though I have already shown a few in the Linda Darnell and Sophia Loren posts. If you have any or know where I can find more I would love to see them.

I often think about making this type of clothing inspired by Swedish folk costume, which has many similar elements (check out some old and fuzzy photos of my own Malungsdräkt, the costume of my town).

Disclaimer: I don’t know the sources of most of these pictures. If you own any of them and want me to remove them or add credit, please leave a comment or send me an e-mail.

This picture of Marguerite Chapman is so amazing.

I love this picture of Ida Lupino. Her outfit is great and I love that she is in some sort of German themed club or something.

Not sure who this is, but she has amazing hair.

I think this is just some random model but I looove this dirndl inspired dress. I would love to recreate it if I find a suitable fabric. I also love her charm bracelet.

This counts as kind of a peasant blouse, right? Anyway, it’s a beautiful picture of Dorothy Dandridge so I’m including it.
