I’ve always liked cheongsams or qipaos and planned to get one some day, but since I found the Soft Film blog I like them even more. I love how the actresses shown almost always wear cheongsams, but they are so varied in fabric and trimmings. Makes me want an entire wardroobe of different cheongsams. All of the photos in this post are from Soft Film. If you know of any other sites about Chinese actresses I’d love to know.

I don’t know the name of this girl but her dress is beautiful. I love the trim.

Fanny Fan in a great striped cheongsam.

Fanny Fan again looking amazing in an all gold outfit.

Helen Li Mei. The trim on this dress is wonderful, and looks so great against the hot pink.

Lam Fung. I love this fabric.

Li Lihua, so beuatful!

Maylia in what I think is an older version of the cheongsam.

Pearl Au Kar-wai and Patricia Lam Fung. So pretty with their matching outfits. I love the trim on these dresses as well.

Tu Chuan, gorgeous!

Yu Ming and Lin Dai. These dresses are both beautiful. I love that the right one is partly sheer.

One final cheongsam worn by Yu So Chow.

Have you seen the film “In the Mood for Love” by Kar Wai Wong? The heroine, Maggie Cheung, wears the most fantastic cheongsams. So beautiful. The music is classic as well.

I have and it’s so beautiful!

I also love cheongsams - there is an iconic photo of my mother looking very vintage Jerry Hall in a silver one my father brought her from his travels to Hong Kong in the sixties and seventies, which I cherish… so beautiful.

lovely photos

What a beautiful post! I also loved your version of the dress - I am thinking of going to my senior prom in either a qipao or cheongsam. I’m in love with vintage :)
