Sketches: Preliminary sketchbook

As I said in my first sketch post I’ve decided to keep a regular sketchbook, for all those ideas that aren’t fully fledged painting concepts, or just drawing for fun without planning or pressure.

Before I found an actual sketch book to use for this purpose I used one of Henrik’s notebooks, and these are the sketches I drew in it before I found the perfect sketchbook on our New York trip.

I’m having a big She-Ra period at the moment and most things I’ve drawn and painted for the past couple of months have been very She-Ra inspired. Obviously this sketch is no exception.

I tinted these sketches slightly in Photoshop for fun, they’re really just regular graphite pencil.

Another She-Ra inspired sketch.

This is kind of boring and the parrot looks terrible, but I like his ship tattoo.

I kept coming across pulp magazine covers illustrating a story called The Snake Mother. This was inspired by those.

This was when I was dreaming about our new York trip. I imagined it would be something like this. I was pretty right minus the snowfall and major shopping.

This was inspired by equal parts Madam Satan and Elsa Schiaparelli.

I really like the New York and sailor sketches plus the Madam Satan at the bottom of the post. Very nice!

Ahh, I think you are too hard on yourself because that parrot looks incredible! I am such a huge fan of these posts - I just adore all of your art <3

I’m so glad you like them! I so seldom get any comments when I post my art so I’m always afraid my readers just aren’t interested in it.

These are really beautiful sketches, I don’t think the sailor one is boring at all, I think that is my favourite along with the Snake women,

love them! stunning female forms and the faces are so pretty
