Dorothy Dandridge in the LIFE archive

The only caption for these photos, found in the LIFE archive, is “Dorothy Dandridge”. They appear to have been taken during a nightclub performance, or rather several performances as she wears different costumes. There are also some off stage photos taken during the same time.

The photos were taken on January 1, 1951 by Edward Clark.

I have shown a few of these pictures in earlier theme posts, but I think Dorothy Dandridge deserves a post of her own.

I haven’t seen any of her movies yet, but I think she’s incredibly beautiful and has amazing style. I think there is something similar about her and Marilyn Monroe, not so much their looks as the kind of feel about them.
