A while back I asked for suggestions for themed photo posts and someone said sunglasses, which is a great idea! I decided to include regular glasses as well though. Feel free to suggest more themes you’d like to see! It’s getting harder and harder to come up with new ones.

I love this picture! At first I though the entire word was part of her glasses, but it’s not. I love both the glasses, the seashell jewellery and the fishnet headscarf. Source: Sally Edelstein.

Round frames were popular in the forties. This picture is from a knitting magazine I saw on Etsy, I’m afraid I forgot the seller.

Barbara Stanwyck looking great in an interesting pair of red sunglasses.

Gloria Vanderbilt hanging out with Salvador Dali. Her outfit is thoroughly forties so I was a bit surprised to see the cateye glasses that are otherwise so associated with the fifties.

Marilyn famously wore glasses in How to Marry a Millionaire.

Marilyn again with Lauren Bacall who wears a great pair of sunglasses.

In candids Marilyn often wears sunglasses. They’re usually black but here she wears a light coloured pair on her honeymoon in Japan with Joe DiMaggio. That outfit in general is pretty amazing. You can’t see it well here but the suit buttons diagonally all the way down.

This is my favourite pair of her sunglasses, and a lovely photo.

Elizabeth Taylor in a great rounded pair.

Rita Hayworth looking great.

Gina Lollobrigida favored pretty eccentric glasses like this thick blackrimmed pair.

And this very pointy pair.

Chinese actress Li Lihua looks lovely in sunglasses while hanging out with Clark Gable. Source: Soft Film.

Jayne Mansfield of course wears a flamboyant pair of sunglasses.

Unknown girl looking terrific in really cool sunglasses.

Finally here’s an interesting pair found in one of the vintage Burda magazines I wrote about earlier. They look like they’re supposed to match the wicker bags by her side, and have an unusual coiled design.
