I’ve been getting quite a lot of compliments on my eyebrows lately, so I thought I’d share some of my eyebrow inspirations.

I especially love pointy eyebrows and interesting shapes.

Stylish men

Aug 29, 2014 in Theme posts

I hardly ever post any men in my style related posts, so I thought I’d remedy that with some great men’s style!

As with women I love eccentric, glamorous and extravagant styles and find that I tend to particularily favor the ghoulish, the 50s rockabilly-ish and the elegantly sleazy, and some colourful 80s stuff. I also love leopard print, lamé and lurex just as much on men as on women.

The men I find the most stylish are not neccesarily the men I find the most attractive or even the most handsome, although there is some obvious overlap. Great style can be a very attractive trait, but I have to admit it’s not among the first, second, or even third things I look for in a man (for the record that would be humour, charm and sex appeal).

To me, an attractive man having a great sense of style is just icing on the cake. In fact strike that because I love icing. It’s more like a rather bland glacé cherry on top of the icing, nice to look at but doesn’t really make a difference.

Now, lets look at some well dressed men!

Bad girls

Jul 31, 2014 in Theme posts

I’ve always loved bad girls. Confident, unashamedly sexual, drinking, smoking girls with over the top glamorous looks who don’t care if others might describe them as gaudy or tawdry.

The classic bad girl wears leopard print, lurex, fishnets, tight trousers and sweaters, hoop earrings and high heeled mules, all of my favourites! They also wear a confident, superior look on their faces, perhaps a red lipstick sneer or a sharp raised eyebrow.

This is pretty much everything I aspire to and the majority of my role models and inspirations growing up were typical bad girls, often of the cartoon variety like Jessica Rabbit (just drawn that way), the girl in that movie Cool World (I don’t remember anything else about this movie but the girl made a big impact on me), some femme fatale in a noir inspired detective cartoon about fish (anyone remember this?) and the showgirl bird in Rock-A-Doodle.

Anyway, have a ton of bad girl pictures.

Lamé and lurex

Jan 19, 2014 in Theme posts

I wasn’t quite sure what to include in a lurex post since I wasn’t exactly sure about the actual difference between lamé and lurex. My fuzzy idea was that lurex is a sparkly yarn or a fabric knit with sparkly yarn, and lamé a smoother, woven metallic fabric. According to the Vintage Fashion Guild however, Lamé is the general term for all metallic fabrics, while Lurex is “the name trademarked by The Lurex Company for plastic-coated aluminum yarn”, or fabrics made with that yarn.

I decided to go with all kinds of metallic fabrics with the exception of sequined or beaded fabrics.

Leopard print

Jan 13, 2014 in Theme posts

Lately my two favourite materials are leopard print and lurex. I love the bold and over the top glamour they represent. I also love their association with “bad taste” since I’m deeply uninterested in the concepts of “tasteful” and “effortless” style. You won’t find Grace Kelly or Audrey Hepburn on my list of style inspirations, and more is definitely more in my book.

I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect leopard coat (50s/60s swing coat with big collar or possible 40s with wide puff shoulders) but haven’t found it yet, mostly because all leopard coats on Ebay and Etsy seem to be size large for some reason.

I realised I have an incredible amount of leopard print themed photos on my computer when I was preparing this post, and I had a hard time deciding which to choose. There are a few cheetahs, ocelots and similar prints thrown in as well. I might make a lurex post later!

Summer inspiration

May 12, 2013 in Theme posts

The past few days it’s been starting to feel like summer here and I can’t wait to wear summer clothes.

This year I’m especially inspired by the bright colours and simple shapes of early 60s clothes and the playsuits and platform sandals of the late 30s and 40s, and hoop earrings!

I’m also very into nautical and cruise inspired 30s and 40s clothes, though I feel like that’s another post!
