My Halloween costume for this year is Princess Aura, my favourite character from the wonderful Flash Gordon serials. It’s probably the most ambitious Halloween costume I’ve made so far, with props and all.

The dress is really red like in the colorised lobby card above. I used the backside of a satin fabric to get a matte finish.

The clear rings at the waist are shower curtain rings!

I made the crown from cardboard and curled and styled the wig.

The gun was the most ambitious prop. Most parts are made of wood, except the pipe which is a plastic leftover pipe from the house renovation of Henrik’s brother’s girlfriend, and the part under the pipe, which is cardboard. I’m really happy with it and it looks almost exactly like the original.

You can’t see it well the the photos but I made sequin appliqués like on the original dress as well. I used one of my vintage dress clips at the neckline and reused the gold cuffs I made for my jungle queen outfit.
