I love big hair, and some of the best big hair came out of the 40s. Here are photos of some wonderful and more or less spectacular 40s hairstyles.

Photos: Rita Hayworth, part 1

Choosing pictures for a Rita Hayworth post was really hard so I’ll have to do two of them. Rita is another of my very favourite actresses. She was just outrageously beautiful and her movies are wonderful. My favourite Rita Hayworth movie so far is Down to Earth.

Photos: Chairs

Movie stars were often photographed with great furniture, especially chairs (as seen in for example the Betty Grable and Bathing beauties posts). Here’s a post with just great chairs, and some pretty girls sitting in them of course.

I love everything exotic, so of course I love Dorothy Lamour, who played many south sea sirens and other exotic roles. Like Betty Grable, she also had some of the best hairdos of the 40s. I would love movie tips as always!

Photos: Folk inspired

Jun 3, 2011 in Theme posts

European and American folk costumes and the fashions they have inspired! I love this kind of stuff: peasant blouses, dirndls, rickrack and anything Mexican looking. I’m also a big fan of native American related stuff. I thought for sure I’d have more photos of clothes like this but apparently not, though I have already shown a few in the Linda Darnell and Sophia Loren posts. If you have any or know where I can find more I would love to see them.

I often think about making this type of clothing inspired by Swedish folk costume, which has many similar elements (check out some old and fuzzy photos of my own Malungsdräkt, the costume of my town).

My favourite Betty movie is The Dolly Sisters, it’s the height of glamour, but almost all of Betty’s movie are great, and if they’re not great they tend to at least be beautiful to look at. Some of my other favourites are Springtime in the Rockies, Moon over Miami, Tin Pan Alley (which I wish was in colour!) and of course How to Marry a Millionaire.
