More Marilyn!

This is my favourite set of photos of her, which is a bit unexpected since in general I much prefer colour photography to black and white. I’m not sure if all these are taken by the same photographer, but the majority are by Ed Feingersh.

Photos: Elizabeth Taylor I

Along with Marilyn Monroe, I think Elizabeth Taylor is the most beautiful woman in the world, but just like with Kim Novak I think Elizabeth’s beauty can’t be fully appreciated until you’ve seen her on the screen, and I didn’t quite “get” her until I did. She has the perfect face and the perfect figure, and I love her distinctive voice and how different it is from the standard trained low Hollywood voice. Elizabeth’s voice can be shrill and high pitched, and yet so lovely. She also had great personal style, and of course some of the best jewels ever.

Elizabeth Taylor is easily one of my favourite actresses, she’s just amazing in every part I’ve seen her in, and it would be hard to choose a favourite of her movies.

I have tons of photos of Elizabeth so even with a severely narrowed down selection this will be a double post, and there will probably be more in the future.

It’s getting harder and harder to come up with new themes for these photo posts, so it’s time to start revisiting some old ones. I’ve already had an exotic post, but this one will be a bit more specific and focus just on tropical and Polynesian themes, one of my favourite things!

Photos: 40s shoes

Just like 40s hair, 40s shoes were some of the most spectacular ones. I’ve become even more interested in them after reading Forties Fashion. I find it very fascinating how material shortages during the war forced designers and manufacturers to try new materials, such as wooden soles, and I think these restrictions gave birth to some amazing and original styles.

I’m also glad that there’s such a trend at the moment for clogs, Swedish Hasbeens and their followers, that look pretty much exactly like the wooden sole shoes from the 40s. This means they’re widely available, and I just wish I will be able to afford a pair or two before the trend goes away again.

Photos: Lana Turner

Lana Turner was definitely one of the most glamorous Hollywood stars, and a fascinating person. My favourite Lana movies are Ziegfeld Girl, A Life of Her Own and The Bad and the Beautiful (set in part at the beautiful Beverly Hills Hotel!).

I have tons of pictures of Lana so there will be more posts in the future!
